EC moves to fast track jurisdiction directive

2001.04.29. New York Times

The European Commission has moved to fast track approval for
Rome II, a controversial proposed law that focuses on
jurisdiction in online consumer transactions. The EC
announced that there would be no further public debate and
that it would move straight to draft regulation. By
adopting a "law of the consumer" approach, critics argue
that the regulation would curtail European consumer
e-commerce.
